* Mars Sample Return (MSR):
Lead
Systems Engineer in a broad and comprehensive assessment of the potential to
apply emerging commercial space transportation capabilities in order to achieve
high value planetary science. The highest priority for planetary science is the
return of samples from Mars. The recently proposed mission architecture is highly complex and expensive. Focused on
optimizing a simpler and therefore less costly mission architecture that
effectively used commercial product lines. Resulting mission design is feasible
and capable of achieving the desired goal.
* Common Instrument Interface (CII) Guidelines:
Worked
within a NASA team to develop technical guidelines to maximize the likelihood
of pairing science instruments with commercial satellite hosts. Obtained key
technical and business input from the commercial communications satellite
industry. Realizing the importance of the business aspects of payload hosting, wrote a companion
business practices manual for CII project customer. The customer gained
valuable business decision insights from this manual.
